Balmedie House

Balmedie House is situated 8 miles north of Aberdeen near the village of Balmedie, just off the Beach Road.

It is a large mansion house in a quiet rural setting surrounded by 26 acres of woodland, lawns and gardens.

Residential care is offered in 30 single and 2 double rooms all with en-suite toilet and wash hand basin 11 with shower.  Residents are welcome to have their own television and telephone within their room. There is a call system allowing residents to summon assistance 24 hours a day.

Rooms can be offered unfurnished and service users are encouraged to bring their own possessions to make their surroundings as personal as they wish.   There is a guest room enabling visitors to stay overnight.

Catering is to a high standard.   The service is flexible to meet the needs and choice of each individual, accommodating special diets.

There are a variety of communal areas furnished to high standards to allow opportunity for social contact.

Individual Care Plan
All service users will be involved with staff in compiling their care plan, which will ensure all care needs are met in full.

Family Involvement
Family and friends are welcome to visit at any time.   Service Users are encouraged to maintain close links with family and friends.

There are facilities to make tea & coffee.   Arrangements can be made for resident family members to join you for a meal in house.
Community Involvement
Strong links, with local community, visits from school children, support from local Church, transport provided each Sunday morning to Church, library service and Circle of Friends who be-friend residents and organise outings and entertainment.

Day Care
Within the Service, and separate from the residential area is a facility for Day Care.

Day care operates Monday to Thursday from 09.30 -15.30 

The Day Care Centre has been developed to meet the needs of the community and offers the following facilities:

  • Trained staff
  • Comfortable environment
  • Stimulating activities
  • Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
  • Opportunity for social contact
  • Outings and entertainment
  • Home cooking – with special diets catered for

Respite Care
To enable carers to have a break, or cope with unforeseen circumstances, we offer Respite Care.

We have a single rooms with en-suite and wash hand basin.

We aim to continue the daily routine enjoyed at home as far as possible, as well as making this an opportunity for a break.
It can be useful for some older people to use Day Care regularly with occasional Respite Care as part of their package of care.

Other Services include:
Services offered include a weekly visit from the hairdresser, regular dental care and chiropody.

Resident’s meetings are held monthly.   This allows all service users to have input on the running of the Service.

Management & Staffing

The Service Manager, along with the Deputy Manager, manages day-to-day care of residents and supervises staff teams.

Experienced, trained care staff that are supported by Cooks, an Administrator, Gardener/ Handyman and a team of Domestic staff provides 24-hour care staff cover.   All staff receive regular training in the area of their work tasks.

Admission Procedure

Any person over the age of 60 may apply, the sole criterion for acceptance being their degree of social need.   No admission can take place without a full study of social and medical factors.   Lack of financial means will not be a limiting factor towards admission.

The cost for Residential and Respite Care is available on request.   The Social Work Department can assess and you may be eligible for help with funding.

Referrals Procedure
Referrals can be made direct to the Service.   For more information, telephone and ask to speak to the Service Manager or the Deputy Manager.

Additional Information

A wide range of activities is offered, from shopping trips to fitness and fun, quizzes and entertainment.   Our programme is constantly developing to meet the needs and interests of the resident group.

The local Church of Scotland Minister at Belhelvie Church is Chaplain to the Home.   Worship takes place every Sunday afternoon in the house conducted by a local Minister.
