CrossReach Week 2016 Day 6 - Learning Disabilities, Central Services and The Closing Service

CrossReach Week 2016 Day 6 - Learning Disabilities, Central Services and The Closing Service

The sixth and final day of CrossReach Week 2016 began with a visit to CrossReach Threshold Edinburgh.

Having completed part of his training in Gogarburn Hospital in the 1970’s, Rt Rev Dr Barr noted his delight at seeing some of the people who he said would have undoubtedly lived there at that time, now living in their own tenancies.

Choice and independence are at the heart of the support offered by Threshold Edinburgh.  The team works with each person to plan, manage and direct their own support according to the way they want to live their lives.

Following a visit round the Hub and enjoying time with everyone there (including a visit to one of the client’s flats), Rt Rev Dr and Mrs Barr boarded the CrossReach taxi and headed for Charis House, the main administrative office.

Keen to meet the staff from the various Central Services teams, Rt Rev Dr and Mrs Barr enthusiastically toured the building before Dr Barr led in the service formally closing CrossReach Week 2016.

Sharing some of their personal highlights of the week Rt Rev Dr Barr enthused about the resilience he and Mrs Barr had consistently seen, “Beyond all your professional skills, your resilience is remarkable.  We have been hugely impressed.”

Peter Bailey CEO took the opportunity to thank both Rt Rev Dr and Mrs Barr for their generosity of time and spirit and for embodying servant leadership, before presenting them with gifts.

Following refreshments and taking the opportunity to meet staff and the people they support from the services based within the campus of the Charis House grounds, Rt Rev Dr and Mrs Barr took their leave and headed home in the CrossReach Taxi.
