Enhancing The Journey

CrossReach Services to Older People held their third annual Dementia Ambassadors Conference today and were delighted to welcome Dementia Ambassadors from CrossReach Learning Disability Services to the event. [24 Nov 2016]

Building on the recognised strong foundation in support offered to people who have been given a diagnosis of dementia, these local experts met together to consider ways in which they can develop and optimise their skills.

Edith MacIntosh, Rehabilitation Consultant for the Care Inspectorate inspired the gathering with her candid and insightful presentation on Pursuing Wellness In Care.  Paralleling CrossReach’s ongoing goals to be a sustainable, continuously improving needs-led organisation, her insight both encouraged and challenged the audience.

Presentations from the Scottish Dementia Working Group and CrossReach’s Heart for Art underscored the well-established ‘can-do’ approach in supporting people with a diagnosis of dementia to make and achieve goals and outcomes.

SSSC Promoting Excellence Advisors introduced the delegates to Open Badges – an exciting new development in recognising learning and skills and Adams House Deputy Manager, Eileen Miller presented the measured benefits of using Talking Mats as a communication tool.

Before bringing the event to a close, Pamela McKay (Development Co-ordinator, Dementia Care) and Linda Kelly (Development Officer, Dementia Care) led the delegates in a time to consider CrossReach’s journey to date in supporting people with dementia before looking ahead with anticipation to what will be the next steps.
