Counselling & Training

CrossReach provides a variety of counselling services across a wide geographical area. Our counsellors try to help and support the client to find their own way through their difficulties.

What is counselling?

Sometimes we experience difficulties in coping with our day to day lives.  This may be due to current circumstances or issues from our past.  Often we resolve these issues ourselves or with the help of others.  Occasionally it is helpful to talk to someone who is trained and objective and offers confidentiality.

Counselling provides the chance to explore issues and difficulties in a safe and confidential environment with someone who is trained to listen carefully to you. The counsellor won’t give you advice or tell you what to do but rather help you work towards your goals at your pace. It involves making an agreement between you and your counsellor as to what you wish to work on and how you will work together. It typically takes the form of regular weekly sessions, held in confidence.

With CrossReach, your counsellor will explain more about this at your first session and you can ask any questions that you might have. As well as talking, some adults and children people like to use writing, art work or play in their counselling sessions. If you think you would like to work in this way you can talk to your counsellor about this in the first session.

All our staff and volunteers are either qualified or working towards a counselling qualification, and receive regular supervision.

CrossReach's counselling services are all either recognised counselling organisations of COSCA (Scotland's professional counselling body) or working towards this and adhering to the COSCA Ethics and Code of Practice.

As a charity with no substantial funding, we are dependent on regular client donations. Whilst strongly encouraging client donations, no-one will be denied access to the service because of their inability to pay.
