Puppet legends inspire singalong!

Older people interacting with puppets

Residents at Queen’s Bay Lodge care home near Portobello in Edinburgh are no strangers to Royal princes visiting, but the recent arrival of ‘The King’ and his friends had everyone singing and sharing memories.

“'The Puppet Gang' always creates a fantastic atmosphere within the care home” say staff at the home.

“The effort they go through to create a relatable and entertaining show from beginning to end is incredible every time. All of the residents get involved in the show and are thoroughly engaged the whole time.”

Visits like this to the home, from puppet icons including Elton John and Louis Armstrong, offer great conversation starters and help the residents to connect to each other and staff.

“Residents are brought out of their shell and they begin to interact with each other. The songs which are played during the show also help with reminiscence and create lots of enjoyment for everyone, even staff.”

Do you know a good tune that would leave the residents ‘All Shook Up’ or chatting about ‘The Circle of life?’ Have you considered sharing it with older people who have a wealth of life experience to share with you?

Working with older people, supporting them to experience the best quality of care whilst having fun along the way may be the next career move you could make.
