Duke of Edinburgh visits Sunflower Garden

Prince Edward

We were delighted to welcome His Grace, the Duke of Edinburgh to Sunflower Garden, Crossreach’s specialist service for children affected by drug and alcohol use in their families. The Prince was able to meet with some of our clients and see first hand the positive impact that our support has on over 150 children and young people every year. Having been established in 2003, Sunflower Garden offers counselling, Art Therapy, Support Work and Group work from Simpson House in Central Edinburgh and in over 40 schools across the city.

‘Sunflower Garden is one of my first ports of call in a storm. When a child has had traumatic experiences relating to problematic alcohol and substance use it is invaluable. I don't think there are any other services that do what Sunflower do and do it so well too’ Professional

Responding to the increasing demand in Edinburgh for skilled mental health supports for children and young people, Crossreach is delighted to be able to now offer Counselling, Art and Play Therapy for all children for any reason, not only parental substance use. This chargeable service, while meeting a vital need in the city, also helps to fund our charitable work - meaning that we can continue to deliver Sunflower Garden’s services to those that need it the most, for the long term.

‘The best thing about my support is that my counsellor is such a great and amazing help to me. I had no hope at the start I thought nothing would change. She really got me through my hard stages and I feel better than ever thank you’  young person
