My name is William Hughes and this is my story.
"I was placed into care at the age of 4. From then until the age of 18 I became bitter, angry.
I blamed the world for my wrongs.
I spent some time in the armed forces, then I spent the last twenty years in prison. This hate, this bitterness - I always believed it was my nature.
Well, that’s what I thought until I started questioning myself:
Is this all I am? Can I not do better than hate?
Those were the first steps I took in completing the goals I’ve achieved up to now;
- SQA Horticulture level 4,
- SQA Drystone Walling level 4,
- SQA Computer Skills level 5
- and my freedom from prison.
Hopefully I will complete my HNC next year after I’ve completed my Construction and Design level 5.
I would never have got this far if it wasn’t for the hard work and encouragement I received from the staff at the Dick Stewart Service. Thank you for your help. Thank you for your support. Thank you."
