New Chairman appointed for CrossReach

Dr Mike Cantlay

The General Assembly of the Church of Scotland has appointed Dr. Mike Cantlay OBE as Convener of its Social Care Council and chair of the Board of CrossReach.

Mike became an admirer of the valuable work that CrossReach does, when his own mother entered care in 2018 and he has been a strong advocate for the organisation ever since.

Having joined the CrossReach Board in 2020, Mike brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to supporting and advancing social care services in Scotland.

Commenting on his appointment, Mike Cantlay said: "I am honoured to take on this new role and work alongside the dedicated teams at CrossReach. I have witnessed firsthand the incredible impact of CrossReach's services when they cared for my mother, and I am truly passionate about supporting and enhancing social care across Scotland."

Mike currently serves as the publicly appointed Chair of the Scottish Funding Council and was previously elected Convener of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority.

He has an extensive leadership background, including previous roles as Chair of NatureScot, Chair of VisitScotland, Chair of Forth Valley College and Chair of Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd.  Additionally, he has been an advisory member of the Board of Scottish Enterprise and VisitBritain in London.  Additionally, Mike is CEO of his own business that sells Scottish manufactured goods in the USA and Canada.

Mike has been recognised for his leadership and contributions to tourism and hospitality. He was awarded Public Sector Leader of the Year at the Scottish Leadership Awards in 2012 and received an OBE in 2014 for his services to the industry.

CrossReach Chief Executive Officer, Viv Dickenson added: "We are delighted to have had Mike on the CrossReach board for the last four years and are pleased to announce his new role. He has extensive experience and leadership skills, which are invaluable as we continue to provide essential services to people who need us across Scotland.”
